SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

Los Amigos running back Greg Fausto put on a ballcarriers’ clinic Friday night, rushing for five touchdowns and 275 yards to lead the Lobos to a 38-21 victory at Garden Grove High.

The Tustin defenders looked bewildered as Fausto scored four times in the first half on runs of 29, 10, 7 and 86 yards.

Before the game Los Amigos Coach Roger Takahashi said he wasn’t going to change anything after his team’s season-opening 20-7 victory over Century last week.

“I just want to score more points this week,” Takahashi said.

And the Lobos did. Thanks to Fausto and a defense that recorded 10 sacks. Jacob Sanchez had four sacks and Jose Medina had three.

The seventh-ranked Lobos got a fumble recovery by Sanchez on the second play of the game and two plays later, Fausto carried the ball in. Barely a minute had ticked off the clock.

Four downs later, the Tillers punted the ball. Fausto soon again crossing the goal line, this time from 10 yards out, and it was 13-0 with 6 minutes 50 seconds left.

Fausto scored once more before Tustin was finally able to put points on the board. Senior Reggie Curry took a short pass 30 yards to cut the Lobos’ lead to 19-7.

Fausto came back one more time, on second and 21, when he ran through the Tillers’ line and sprinted 86 yards for his fourth touchdown and 25-7 lead.

Los Amigos’ other first-half score came when La Rue Carr caught a 65-yard pass from Ape Tuato with 36 seconds remaining and Los Amigos led, 31-7.

Fausto scored one more time on a 70-yard run to close out the third quarter and take a 38-7 lead. He would have scored a record-tying six times on the night, but a holding penalty nullified a three-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.

The Tillers’ Brandon Lambert finished with two touchdowns, scoring in the last two minutes on runs of 11 and 17 yards.
