SEASON AT A GLANCE: The 5-foot-10, 180-pounder has rushed for a region-leading 495 yards in 41 carries and scored five touchdowns in the first two games of the season.

WEEK AT A GLANCE: Smith gained 352 yards in 19 carries and scored three touchdowns to lead Grant (1-0-1) to a 20-15 victory over Marshall in a nonleague game Friday. He scored on runs of 79, 98 and 69 yards and forced a fumble with a minute left that secured the Lancers’ victory. “I was expecting a big year because I knew I wasn’t going to have to share the ball with another tailback like last year,” Smith said. “Our offensive line has also improved. When you’re running behind a line that has two 320-pounders. . . . and a (6-foot, 190-pound) fullback like Marcel Decir, you get some holes to run through. But I didn’t expect this type of yardage.”
