Something happened to that successful formula Dana Hills used in the first half of its nonleague game Friday night against Gardena Serra.

And when Serra realized it had the Dolphins (0-3) on the run, it turned up the pressure.

The speedy Cavaliers rallied to rout Dana Hills, 33-11, in front of approximately 3,000 at Serra.

Dana Hills led, 11-6, at halftime, but Serra shut out the Dolphins, 27-0, in the second half.

The Cavaliers (2-1) relied on several big plays in the second half, with running backs Ademole Turner and Ricky Boyer providing the biggest.

Turner returned a fumble by the Dolphins’ Randy Hein 98 yards for the go-ahead touchdown with 7 minutes 6 seconds to play in the third quarter. That gave Serra a 12-11 lead, which is all it would need. Turner also scored Serra’s first touchdown with a 50-yard run in the first quarter.

Boyer gained 134 yards in only eight carries, and dashed the Dolphins’ hopes of a rally with a 94-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter. The extra point gave Serra a 27-6 lead with 10:06 remaining in the game.

Dolphin quarterback Scott Maynard completed 12 of 28 passes for 118 yards with one touchdown and one interception. He combined with John Morgan on a 40-yard touchdown pass with 1:22 to play in the second quarter. Eric Knip completed a two-point conversion to Ilan Katz to give Dana Hills its 11-6 halftime lead.

Knip opened the game’s scoring with a 40-yard field goal at the 2:32 mark of the first quarter. After halftime, however, Dana Hills could not move the ball consistently.

Randy Hein rushed 15 times for 57 yards to lead Dana Hills.
