Chris Carr and Josh Cross of Buena High ran roughshod over Newbury Park’s Ventura County-record winning streak, combining to rush for 254 yards and lead the Bulldogs to a 28-0 nonleague victory Friday night at Ventura High.

Newbury Park (2-1), which won the Southern Section Division III championship with a 14-0 record last season, had its streak snapped at 16. The Panthers had not lost to a Ventura County school since the 1991 season.

Buena (2-1) controlled the line of scrimmage, moving the ball consistently behind 6-foot-6, 270-pound tackle John Raymond.

“My backs would come back to the huddle and say, ‘Those holes are huge. Our coach could even get through them,’ ” Raymond said.

On its first possession, Newbury Park drove to the Buena four, but Carr intercepted a pass. The Bulldogs drove 96 yards in nine plays, capped by Carr’s seven-yard scoring run.

Carr finished with 127 yards in 17 carries, including a 30-yard scoring run.

Cross gained 125 yards in 15 carries. Nathan Coyle scored Buena’s other two touchdowns on one-yard runs. Buena junior quarterback Glenn Dudley passed for 99 yards, completing nine of 20 with one interception.

Quarterback Justin Vint led Newbury Park in rushing with 46 yards in seven carries. The Panthers managed only 146 total yards.
