COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Edwards, Mitchell Lead UCI

Popi Edwards had 15 kills and Stacy Mitchell added nine as UC Irvine beat Cal State Fullerton, 15-5, 15-4, 15-7, in a Big West Conference volleyball match Saturday night at Fullerton.

Jennifer Lipski had 10 kills and Chelsea Wilhite added seven for Fullerton, which fell to 0-15, 0-5 in conference.

Meredith Fletcher had 33 assists for the Anteaters (3-10, 2-4). Melissa Blackler led the Titans in assists with 24.

Mitchell had 14 digs and Edwards had 13. Blackler had 13 digs for Fullerton.

In Golden State Athletic Conference women’s volleyball:

Biola 3, Southern California College 0--Genevie Wright had 26 kills and Celeste Young added 19 for SCC (13-4, 3-2), which lost, 18-16, 15-11, 17-15. Biola is 11-6, 5-1.

Westmont 3, Concordia 0--Elaini Kollias had seven kills for Concordia (10-8, 1-5), which lost, 15-12, 15-9, 15-9. Westmont is 2-4 in conference.

In nonconference women’s volleyball:

Chapman 3, Cal State Dominguez Hills 0--Shawna Parkinson had 15 kills for host Chapman (15-3), which won, 16-14, 15-11, 15-13.

In Golden State Athletic Conference men’s soccer:

Southern California College 4, Concordia 0--Chris Chaparro scored two goals and Kevin Villar, Bryan Shoup, Matthew Clement and Jason Allen added one each for host SCC, which scored four first-half goals.

In nonconference women’s soccer:

Chapman 6, Whittier 0--Cindy LeClair scored two goals for visiting Chapman (5-3). Teri Perkins, Amy Feniello, Carey Wright and Kathy Mulherin also scored.

Southern California College 5, The Master’s 0--Megan Conner and Joy Pelletier got two goals each for host SCC (4-5-1), which scored four goals in the second half. Deann Salcido scored SCC’s other goal.

At the Stanford Invitational cross-country meet:

Fullerton’s Killeen 10th--Heather Killeen finished 10th in 18:10 for Cal State Fullerton, which was 11th. UC Irvine’s Laura Monson was 20th in 18:33. Irvine finished ninth.

UCLA’s Karen Hecox won the race in 17:14. The Bruins’ Shelley Taylor, formerly of Edison High and Arkansas, was fourth in 17:40. Stanford won the meet.

At the NorCal water polo tournament:

UC Irvine 9, Chaminade 2; USC 12, UCI 8--Peter Muller scored three goals and Omar Amr added two against Chaminade at Stanford. Tom Davis had seven saves, including a penalty shot.

Against USC, ranked second, Hrvoje Cizmic scored five goals to lead UCI. Craig Watson tied the score, 7-7, with four seconds left in the third quarter, but USC scored the next four goals to pull away.
