COLLEGE FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : AROUND THE NATION : Nebraska’s Frazier Undergoes Surgery
Tommie Frazier underwent surgery Thursday for recurring blood clots in his right leg, but the star Nebraska quarterback is still almost certain to sit out the rest of the season.
Doctors at Bryan Memorial Hospital in Lincoln tied off a vein believed to be contributing to the clots. Deepak Gangahar, a cardiovascular surgeon, said the operation went well.
Frazier, 20, a junior from Bradenton, Fla., should remain in the hospital for a week to 10 days and avoid physical contact for three to six months, Gangahar said.
Playing contact sports while on blood thinners would be dangerous because of the risk of internal bleeding if there is an injury.
Meanwhile, doctors continued to monitor backup quarterback Brook Berringer, who sustained a partially collapsed lung last week but is scheduled to start for No. 2 Nebraska against Oklahoma State on Saturday. He will wear a protective pad for extra protection.
