PRO FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : RAIDERS : The Bottom Line Still Is Winning

Share

Throughout the week, the Raiders have talked about regaining their winning attitude. Linebacker Winston Moss said the team needed to play with the same physical urgency as last season, and wide receiver Tim Brown talked about being more focused mentally as a team.

Whatever the case, the Raiders realize that they need to bounce back Sunday at New England.

“I won’t respond to what some of the players have said. . . . Everyone has an opinion,” Coach Art Shell said. “It takes different people different ways to prepare to play. There are certain things that you have to do in order to be ready to play. Whatever that is for that individual, you have to do it. If that calls for you to cuss somebody out, you do it. The idea is to perform.”

The leading tacklers for the Raiders usually have been linebackers, but safety Eddie Anderson is their top tackler this season. In four games, Anderson has 23 tackles, including 19 solos and two sacks. Second on the team is another safety, Derrick Hoskins, who has 15, including 10 solos. . . . The Raiders are 27th in the NFL in scoring defense (31 points per game). Only Denver is worse at 34. New England leads the league in yards per game (419.8), passing yards per game (342.2) and first downs per game (24).

During the bye week break, the players got Shell to change the team’s daily routine. The Raiders now practice at 1 p.m., an hour earlier, and hold position meetings at 3:45, rather than after lunch and before practice. . . . A capacity crowd of 60,000 is expected Sunday at Foxboro Stadium.
