Garden Grove Fire Called ‘Suspicious’

A fire that one official termed “very suspicious” destroyed one classroom and scorched two others at Dr. Leroy L. Doig Intermediate School on Sunday night, causing an estimated $250,000 in damage to the school’s structure and contents.

The blaze broke out at 7:27 p.m. and was under control a little more than an hour later, said Battalion Chief Keith Osborn of the Garden Grove Fire Department. It is believed to have started in a classroom in the West Building, he said.

Osborn said the fire was considered “very suspicious” because of the time of outbreak--when no one was supposed to be on campus--and because some video and television equipment was found on the scene. He said it is possible someone was trying to burglarize the school.
