PRO FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT : RAMS : Chandler or Miller? Knox Indecisive

Share

Coach Chuck Knox released quarterback Jamie Martin and said he has not decided who will start at the position for the Rams against the New York Giants.

The team spent $9 million during the off-season to sign Chris Miller to a three-year contract, but Knox appears more enamored with backup Chris Chandler, who sat out last week’s game with an ankle injury.

“We’ll wait for the medical report before making a decision,” Knox said.

Why wait if Miller is healthy enough to start, as he was Sunday in Green Bay? Miller played the entire game against the Packers and completed 18 of 29 passes for 166 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. Did Chandler’s winning performance against Kansas City three weeks ago push him ahead of Miller on Knox’s depth chart?

The Rams brought in former Washington punter Kelly Goodburn for a physical examination, but it was only a precaution because the team now believes Sean Landeta will be ready to perform Sunday against the Giants, his former team.

Landeta, the NFC’s No. 3 punter, showed remarkable improvement after injuring his shoulder Sunday. He is not expected to practice much of the week, but he showed coaches Tuesday that he was able to raise his arm, thereby allowing him to kick later this week with anticipated further improvement.
