Schneider Commits to Stanford Softball

Michelle Schneider of Los Alamitos has orally committed to attend Stanford next year on a softball scholarship, her coach, Jami Shannon, said Friday.

Schneider, a shortstop with a .955 fielding average, was a Times All-County and Southern Section Division I player who batted .415 with 24 runs batted in.

Laura Echolds, a middle blocker at Esperanza, orally committed to play volleyball at Santa Clara, Esperanza Coach Kurt Kersten said.

Last season, the 6-foot Echolds was selected first-team All-Empire League. She is a three-year starter.

Courtney Owens of Calvary Chapel, a Times all-county selection last season, orally committed to play volleyball at Colorado.

Owens, a 5-foot-10 outside hitter, was an All-Southern Section Division V selection last season and a second-team all-county pick by The Times.
