Starting wide receiver Jessie Hester was unable to practice Friday because of back spasms, but Coach Chuck Knox said he hopes treatment will allow Hester to play Sunday against the Saints.

If he is unable to play, rookie Isaac Bruce will start, Knox said.

Knox designated running back David Lang, tackle Jackie Slater, defensive tackle Sean Gilbert and center Bern Brostek as inactive for the game.

Goeas was injured against Kansas City and believed he had a broken ankle. He was sent for X-rays twice, and after being assured it wasn’t broken, he agreed to play on.

The last few weeks he has received pain-killing injections before playing, but the medication wears off by the fourth quarter.

“I’m always looking for quick games,” Goeas said. “It’s nice if we could get ahead, run the ball and keep the clock moving.
