A 4-month-old Rialto infant was thrown out of a car in an accident on the Golden State Freeway and killed, authorities said Thursday.

Yvonne Villanueva died after her unsecured infant seat was ejected from a car that was rear-ended by a truck, spun out of control and smashed into the freeway guardrail, according to CHP Officer Wendy Moore.

The accident occurred after the driver of the car in which the child was a passenger tried to change lanes on the southbound freeway about 11 p.m. Wednesday, Moore said.

Yvonne was strapped into an infant carrier but the it was not attached to the passenger seat, Moore said.

The driver of the car, Naomi Mendez, 20, of Rialto, and three other passengers, including another 4-month-old baby, were not seriously injured in the accident, Moore said.

The driver of the truck, Jack Young, 32, of Norco, was not injured.

“Another truck driver who saw the accident stopped and gave the baby CPR,” said Moore. “But she died later at the hospital.”

Neither driver was cited, but the accident is under investigation, Moore said.
