If You’re Disgusted, This Is Place for It

I was thoroughly disgusted with the on-field antics of Deion Sanders and Andre Rison during the San Francisco-Atlanta game on Oct. 16. The fight and Sanders’ obnoxious display during the interception return were equally repugnant.

Even more disturbing, however, were the reactions by all parties of the NFL. The officials did not have the guts to throw these two jerks out of the game. The coaches didn’t have the courage to bench them. The owners did not reprimand the players and the league fined each of them a meaningless $7,500. Players like this need to be forced to sit out the next game to send the right message.

I am shocked, angry and disgusted at the news that millions of dollars in bonuses will be paid to the executives and other employees of the World Cup. All those people were paid for their employment and the upper-echelon people were paid in the six-figure range. Seven million dollars for Alan Rothenberg? Give me a break.

The profits of the World Cup were supposedly earmarked for the advancement of the sport in this country. Playing fields, equipment, coaching, etc. Wasn’t the World Cup Organizing Committee a nonprofit organization? And what about all those volunteers who spent tens of thousands of hours to pull this thing off. If somebody was entitled to a bonus, it was them and not those executives. As it shows clearly now, most people in the World Cup organization were in it for the money, not for the sport of soccer. For them, it might as well have been a turtle race.
