In the Sea View League:

Irvine 21, El Toro 21--El Toro rallied for two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to earn a tie against Irvine.

The Chargers (4-3-1, 1-1-1) tied the score with two trick plays.

On fourth and 11 at the Irvine 25-yard line, quarterback Brian Wilson lateraled the ball to running back Merle Sango, who completed a pass to Joe Ader at the one-yard line.

On the next play, Wilson scored on a keeper to close the gap to 21-19 with 7:22 remaining.

El Toro tied the score with a two-point conversion. Wilson pitched the ball to Jamie Hanaway. Wilson then ran into the end zone and caught a pass from Hanaway to make it 21-21.

Irvine (3-4-1, 1-1-1) had one last chance to win. On their next possession, the Vaqueros advanced 52 yards to the El Toro 14-yard line. But a 30-yard field goal by Sean Clark went wide right with 10 seconds remaining to end Irvine’s bid for a victory.

Irvine was led by Russ Diehl, who scored on touchdown runs of three yards and one yard in the first half. He rushed for 161 yards in 33 carries. Wilson led El Toro, completing 13 of 24 passes for 150 yards.

In eight-man football:

Harbor City Gateway Christian 52, Liberty Christian 40--Gateway Christian scored 22 consecutive points in the fourth quarter to capture the Delta League championship Saturday at Liberty Christian.
