OPENINGS: Friday was another symbolic day for quake recovery: The interchange from the southbound Golden State Freeway to the northbound Antelope Valley Freeway was back in use (B4) and hundreds of shoppers showed up to celebrate the reopening of The Broadway at Northridge Fashion Center (B1). “It’s a sign of rebirth,” said Broadway shopper Marie McGee.

TIMBER: Friday, however, also brought a reminder that the quake is still with us. In Sherman Oaks, a three-story, 4,000-square-foot home that had been red-tagged for months fell down a hillside, and nobody knows why. “It could have been the rain or the wind,” said Building and Safety Inspector Frank Bush (B1). . . . The home’s owner could not be reached for comment.

TOUR GUIDE: Get a life, Dick Mason. After all, you’ve seen more than 26,000 movies and spent 37 years on the Warner Bros. lot in Burbank. “I loved movies,” says Mason, above, the studio’s VIP Tours manager. “It just fit me like a glove, I guess, and I’ve been that way ever since.” (F1) . . . The studio tour is every hour on the hour, weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Information: (818) 954-1744.

FOR SALE: You can’t fight Glendale City Hall, but maybe you can buy it. A city-run store has opened at the Glendale Galleria. Its merchandise includes old street signs, parking meters, fire hoses and a used police motorcycle (B2). . . . The city hopes the store will give a big boost to its image . . . and its bank account.

GOOD MOVE: Quarterback Jim Arellanes is one giddy guy, and why shouldn’t he be? He’s gone from being the scrub in Northern Arizona to the star at Valley College (C14). . . . The Monarchs, ranked ninth in the country, play traditional power Bakersfield tonight, although Arellanes isn’t about to be scared of anyone. “We are the only ones who can stop ourselves,” he says.
