Newbury Park 19, Simi Valley 15--Chrissy Sanford’s 24-yard field goal with 5:51 to play lifted host Newbury Park.
Quarterback Chris Czernek completed 20 of 43 passes for 236 yards. A 22-yard touchdown pass from Czernek to wide receiver Eric Mahanke in the third quarter gave the Panthers a 14-7 lead. Mahanke caught eight passes for 139 yards.
Simi Valley (5-3-1, 3-3) answered when Chris Azzinaro scored on a two-yard run and ran for a two-point conversion for a 15-14 lead. Newbury Park (6-3, 4-2) drove 53 yards in 10 plays to the Pioneer seven-yard line to set up Sanford’s kick. Newbury Park added a safety with three minutes to play.
