Garden Grove Apartment Fire Displaces 16

Sixteen people from three families had to be evacuated Friday from their apartment building after a fire broke out in a carport and caused extensive damage to three units, authorities and a Red Cross official said.

The blaze broke out about 8:30 p.m. in a carport at 11062 Cynthia Circle at the Pepper Tree Apartments, Garden Grove fire officials said.

A Red Cross official said the agency put a family of six adults up in a motel over the weekend because their apartment had sustained heavy smoke damage.

“It’s not inhabitable at this point,” said Scott Tokar, a volunteer public information officer for the Orange County chapter of the Red Cross.

The other 10 people displaced by the fire made their own arrangements for emergency shelter, he said.

Authorities released no other information about the fire.
