COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Last-Place Fullerton Ties No. 1 Cypress

Fullerton, the Orange Empire Conference’s last-place women’s soccer team, tied Cypress, the top-ranked team in the state, 1-1, Tuesday at Fullerton.

It was the second consecutive tie for Cypress (17-0-2, 11-0-2), which had a 35-game conference winning streak stopped Friday in a 1-1 tie with Palomar.

Cypress outshot Fullerton, 18-2, and took a 1-0 lead in the fifth minute when Wendy Pollanzak scored after a corner kick.

In the 20th minute, Melenee Davidson took a pass from Monica Esparza and scored in the upper right corner of the net for Fullerton (3-10-2, 3-8-1).

Stephanie Phillips had 18 saves for Fullerton, which lost to Cypress, 5-0, the other time the teams played this season.

In other Orange Empire women’s games:

Orange Coast 3, Palomar 1--Danae Fielder scored consecutive second-half goals to give the Pirates (12-5, 9-4) a 2-1 lead. The victory over second-place Palomar (10-5-3, 9-3-2) kept OCC in the running for a conference playoff bid.

Irvine Valley 3, San Diego Mesa 1--Shannon Cunningham, Lindsey Hayward and Courtney Leonard each scored for third-place Irvine Valley (10-4-1, 9-3-1).

Rancho Santiago 4, San Diego City 3--Robyn Camarillo and Erica Hills each had a goal and an assist for host Rancho Santiago (4-8-1).

In Orange Empire Conference men’s soccer:

Orange Coast 2, Golden West 0--Michael McCabe and Pat Ferry each scored in the first half for the host Pirates (8-4-4, 4-3-2).

Cypress 3, Fullerton 0--Daniel Buda, Duje Babarovic and Joey Mezza each scored for host Cypress (5-5-6, 3-3-3). Fullerton is 6-7-3, 4-4-2.

Irvine Valley 3, Riverside 3--John Gerdis, Chris Roselli and Flavio Bernal scored goals for host Irvine Valley (8-6-4, 4-4-2).
