Los Alamitos Investigating Transfer of Student

Share

Dean Crowley, Southern Section commissioner, on Tuesday asked Los Alamitos High School Principal Carol Hart to investigate an allegation that a Griffin football player, who transferred from Cypress High, never moved into Los Alamitos’ attendance area.

The Southern Section adopted a rule this year that allowed a student a one-time transfer, within the first 15 days of the school year, without losing eligibility.

However, the rule does not apply in this case as the transfer must take place between schools in the same district. Cypress is part of the Anaheim Union High School District and Los Alamitos is in the Los Alamitos Unified School District.

“Only comment I have is as far as we know, the kid is legal,” said John Barnes, Los Alamitos football coach and athletic director. “We are in the process of checking. We have checked this transfer before and everything was in order.”

Crowley said he received information from another Sunset League school that led him to request the school look into the matter.

“Los Alamitos, because it’s a high-profile program, does a good job of checking athletes out,” Crowley said. “The school is cooperating.”

Hart could not be reached for comment Tuesday.

Los Alamitos, the No. 1-ranked team in Orange County, has a 44-game unbeaten streak.
