Agoura Goes to Another Level for Water Polo Playoff Match

A last-minute protest by San Luis Obispo High nearly forced Agoura to change the site of today’s Southern Section quarterfinal water polo match, but the Chargers kept the match on campus by raising the water level of their pool in keeping with Southern Section guidelines.

Agoura’s pool is six feet deep, six inches shy of the standard required under national high school rules. The Southern Section forces its members to adopt the national guidelines once teams advance to the playoff quarterfinals.

Agoura Coach Jason Rosenthal is annoyed with the late protest by San Luis Obispo, saying the Chargers did not learn of the complaint until Tuesday morning.

“We have hosted second- and third-round matches here before and nobody has ever said anything,” he said.

“Why did they wait until the day before a playoff match to complain? I filled the pool, so if they want to measure it, they can measure it all they want.”

Before raising the water level, Agoura considered moving the match to Royal’s home pool in Simi Valley.

However, the Chargers would have been forced to play at 1:30 p.m. because Royal is playing its quarterfinal match against Cabrillo today at 3:15 p.m.
