OUTLOOK

Kameoka, who averaged 14 points last season and was a first-team all-league selection, returns for her fourth year on varsity. “She’s really competitive,” Del Crognale said. “She’s a really good shooter, but her hindrance is that she’s only 5 feet 3.” And therein lies the Lancers’ biggest problem: Del Crognale says he probably won’t have any starters taller than 5-9. “This is my third year coaching here, and the first year, I thought we were short. Since then, we’ve gotten shorter every year. That’s a scary thought.” Gonzales and Kaminiski, who was the junior varsity’s most valuable player, should provide rebounding and defensive help. “(Gonzales) is the enforcer,” Del Crognale said. He said he doesn’t expect much scoring from either player. Kameoka and Kaneshiro will start in the backcourt, but Chen might play some at point guard, depending on how soon she adapts to varsity play. The Lancers must make up for their lack of height with tenacity, Del Crognale said. “We’ve got some aggressive girls and some good shooters, it’s just a matter of getting some rebounds.”
