Local Authors’ Pens Are Poised to Sign Latest Batch of Books : Writers of works ranging from cookbooks to ecological thrillers to visit area stores.

Literary toilers fortunate enough to have their work in print are visiting local bookstores to share war stories from the publishing world and to sign their latest books.

The Ojai Table of Contents, 208 E. Ojai Ave. is hosting four events this week:

At 6 p.m. Friday, Maxene Andrews, who with her sisters Patty and LaVerne performed all over the world between 1930 and 1950, will sign her memoir “Over Here, Over There,” written with Bill Gilbert. The famous Andrews Sisters traveled the globe to entertain the troops during World War II.

At 6 p.m. Saturday, Ted Simon will sign his ecological thriller, “The River Stops Here,” which tells the true story of one man’s battle to prevent the state of California from creating a vast reservoir.

At 4 p.m. Sunday, artist/author Richard Stine, whose new book is “The World of Richard Stine,” will discuss love, work and money.

At 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, bring the children to hear volunteer reader Mattie Clark tell stories.

Local nutritionist Marianne Moore-Rotenberg will sign her cookbook “Harvest America Recipes,” illustrated by Barbara Dougherty, at 1 p.m. Saturday in Barnes & Noble, 4360 E. Main St., Ventura.

Is there a secret to getting a mystery published? Maybe Jeff Andrus, author of “Tracer, Inc.” can tell you at 1 p.m. Saturday at Mysteries to Die For, 2940 Thousand Oaks Blvd., Thousand Oaks.

Uncover more clues at 1 p.m. Sunday when Janet Dawson, who wrote “Don’t Turn Your Back on the Ocean,” and Jonnie Jacobs, author of “Murder Among Neighbors,” visit the bookstore.

A wonderful experience is in store for every grown-up and child who hears Eve Bunting and Caldecott Award-winner David Wiesner read from their latest book, “The Night of the Gargoyles,” from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday at Adventures for Kids, 3457 Telegraph Road, Ventura.

James Heller Levinson, author of “The Bad Boy Poems” and Terri Niccum will read at 8:30 p.m. Monday at the Bakunin Poetry series in the Vampyre Lounge Cafe, 655 E. Los Angeles Ave., Simi Valley. Call 526-3264 for details.

Travel writer Bob Carter’s new book, “The Best of Central California: Main Roads & Side Trips,” has just been published. The Oxnard resident, whose articles appear in dozens of regional and national magazines, also serves as the public & media relations director of the Greater Oxnard & Harbor Tourism Bureau. He was recently notified of his listing in the 14th edition of “International Authors and Writers Who’s Who” which will be released in 1995.
