The Diablos (5-6) moved the ball all night against Bishop Amat, but were hurt by four turnovers, two of which were returned for touchdowns.

“We didn’t get beat up, we just got outscored,” Mission Viejo Coach Bill Denny said.

After keeping a scoreless first quarter, Bishop Amat’s Roger Ollano intercepted a pass by Mission Viejo quarterback Austin Moherman pass on the first play of the second quarter and returned it 30 yards for a touchdown.

Another turnover set up the Lancers’ second touchdown and Ralph Brown then partially blocked a punt giving Bishop Amat the ball at the Mission Viejo 31-yard line.

Four plays later, James Free hit Kory Minor on a six-yard touchdown pass with 1:01 left in the half.

Mission Viejo moved the ball inside the Lancers’ 15-yard line three times in the third quarter, but got only 11 points from the drives.

Todd Fielding kicked a 29-yard field goal and later scored on a five yard run.

Daylon McCutcheon, who gained 189 yards in 19 carries, ran for an 80-yard touchdown in the third quarter and Trey Sorensen picked off another Moherman pass and returned it 30 yards for a score.
