LANCASTER — A man who left a pickup truck parked in an alley with a homemade bomb in its bed was arrested Friday night, Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies said.
Tony Palmasano, 34, a Utah resident, is expected to be arraigned Monday or Tuesday on charges of possessing an explosive device and an illegal firearm, said Sheriff’s Deputy Benita Hinojos of the department’s Headquarters bureau. Palmasano is being held at the sheriff’s Antelope Valley substation in lieu of $500,000 bail.
Deputies found the bomb, and an illegal sawed-off shotgun, while investigating a truck parked illegally in an alley near 3rd Street and Avenue H-13, Hinojos said.
Palmasano, who was arrested when he returned to the truck, told officers he was visiting a friend. It has not been determined why he had the bomb, Hinojos said.
