OUTLOOK

For the second consecutive season, Higashi returns two starters. This season, unfortunately, he doesn’t have the luxury of building from a 12-12 team that reached the playoffs. The Rebels managed only one league victory last season, but should be improved this season. Klingelsmith and Miller are back for their senior years. Klingelsmith averaged nine points last season and earned all-league honorable mention honors. She will be joined by Stevens and Hernandez in the post. Stevens who was a part-time starter last season, will earn the starting job at center by the time the season starts. Pendergraft is also expected to help fill the holes left by graduation. The abundance of seniors should offset the team’s lack of height, but the Rebels will have a tough time hanging with Valencia, Western and Magnolia for the league’s third playoff berth. With five girls on the volleyball team and two playing tennis, Higashi is glad to finally have a full team at practice. Higashi said this year’s squad is deeper than a year ago’s.
