Irvine Schools Fail the Standards Test

Share

I often wonder about the state of education in America. The Irvine Unified School District is sued because it has higher academic standards for female cheerleaders than it has for male football players. A former cheerleader says this is discriminatory. She’ll get no argument from me.

So what does the school board do? Does it take the obvious step of raising all academic standards, holding their football players to a higher level and thereby fulfilling their role as educators ? Do they risk losing the use of the talents of athletically gifted but academically questionable players? Do they have the guts to do the right thing?

Nah. I didn’t think so.
