COMPANY TOWN ANNEX
FCC May Increase TV Station Ownership Limit: The agency is finalizing a proposal to raise the maximum number of stations a single company can own, industry officials said. Under current rules, established to encourage diversity among TV owners and in programming, owners are limited to either 12 stations or a number that collectively serves no more than 25% of the U.S. population. Now, in recognition of industry competition, the Federal Communications Commission is floating a plan to raise the limit to 18 stations. It also has told industry officials that it will propose relaxing the population limit to 30% or 35%.
