A motorist suffered a fatal heart attack behind the wheel Saturday, causing his car to careen into a pedestrian waiting at a bus stop and then slam into a health clinic wall, police said.

The driver, a 47-year-old man whose name was withheld pending notification of relatives, probably died before his car struck the pedestrian or the building, authorities said. The motorist was later pronounced dead at Anaheim Memorial Hospital. There were no passengers in the car.

The pedestrian, a 35-year-old Placentia man, suffered chest injuries and a broken leg, but was reported in stable condition Saturday at the UCI Medical Center in Orange Saturday afternoon. His name was not released.

The accident occurred just after 7 a.m. as the motorist drove south on North State College Boulevard near La Palma Avenue.

The car passed through the intersection, then jumped the curb, hit the pedestrian and rammed into the brick wall of the Your Family Medical Group clinic, 555 N. State College Blvd. The car also struck the bus shelter and a nearby clinic signpost.

Nobody was inside the closed clinic, and the pedestrian was apparently the only one waiting at the bus stop.
