In the El Toro 10-Way tournament:

Anaheim wins--Anaheim, ranked sixth in the county, upset third-ranked Laguna Hills to win at El Toro High.

Anaheim, finishing 8-0 in dual competition, defeated Laguna Hills, 38-16, in the last dual match of the tournament. Both teams were 7-0 before they competed.

Jose Lopez (103), Alexei Yanuaria (130), Manny Megia (135) and brothers Robert (171) and Reuben Droughns (189) won their respective weight classes.

“They just kicked our fannies,” Laguna Hills Coach Cliff Jarmie said. “We have no excuses. We just have to work harder.”

Thanh Nguyen (119), Scott Morinoue (140) and Casey Elliott (160) won their weight classes for Laguna Hills.

Finishing third behind Laguna Hills was San Clemente at 6-2. Adam Miller (145) and Aaron Greco (152), who was named most valuable wrestler in the upper weights, were champions for San Clemente.

In the Fullerton tournament:

Fullerton wins--La Puente’s Carlos Gutierrez was a top performer in the lower division, winning by a pin in 1:45.

Erick Avalos, also from La Puente, won by pin in 1:24 in the heavyweight division.

Winning with 103 points was Fullerton, followed by La Puente (101.5), La Habra (100), Sonora (81), Cerritos Gahr (69), Whittier Christian (53), Bolsa Grande (27) and Whittier La Serna (13).

In the San Dieguito Eight-Way tournament:

Aliso Niguel finishes seventh--Rhett O’Brien (160 pounds) and Ryan Herbon (189) each won for Aliso Niguel at the meet in Encinitas. Bret Kilker was second at 103 pounds and Kevin Hadfield took third at 140 pounds for Aliso Niguel.
