While Orange County tries to hold off creditors with its record-high municipal bankruptcy filing, county taxpayers get no respite from today’s 5 p.m. deadline for paying the first installment of their property taxes. Despite having to pay up at the treasurer-tax collector’s office, the center of nationwide attention due to the county’s massive losses in the securities market, taxpayers are taking some comfort in knowing that their checks are being placed in a separate, low-risk fund.
