PRO FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : RAIDERS : Only Anderson, Washington Hurt

Share

The Raiders are the most injury-free of the playoff contenders in the AFC West Division. The only players with physical problems are safety Eddie Anderson, who has a slight groin pull, and cornerback Lionel Washington, who has a calf bruise. Anderson is expected to play Sunday against the Seahawks in Seattle. Washington is day to day.

Sunday’s game against the Denver Broncos was a rarity for quarterback Jeff Hostetler, who had a chance to go home rather than go in for medical treatment. Three of the previous four weeks, he had been injured, suffering jammed toes against the Rams, a concussion against the Pittsburgh Steelers, and a punctured hand against the San Diego Chargers.

Did he miss the trainer’s room Sunday?

“I made a decision I was not going to go in there, no matter what,” Hostetler said with a big grin.

Sunday’s game was the Raiders’ 550th, counting regular season and playoffs. It was the first in which a Raider kicked five field goals.

In setting the club record Sunday, Jeff Jaeger broke the mark of four first set by Mike Mercer in 1965 against the Houston Oilers, and then equaled five times by George Blanda. Blanda kicked four field goals in regular-season games against Houston in 1967, Denver in 1968 and the Miami Dolphins in 1973. Blanda also kicked four field goals against Houston in 1967 and against Pittsburgh in 1973 in playoff games.
