City leaders have appointed two new members to the county’s transportation panel.

Moorpark Mayor Paul Lawrason and Ventura resident Roma Armbrust were selected by the mayors of the county’s 10 cities to serve four-year terms on the Ventura County Transportation Commission.

The seven-member panel of elected officials and citizen representatives meets monthly to set transportation policy and dole out about $64 million a year in government funding.

Armbrust replaces Thousand Oaks resident Nancy Grasmehr, whose term expires this month. Lawrason replaces Frank Schillo, who served on the panel as a Thousand Oaks councilman before he was elected to the Board of Supervisors in November. Both Armbrust and Lawrason had served as commission alternates.

Early next year the Board of Supervisors will select a replacement for Supervisor Vicky Howard, who is retiring. Howard was chairwoman of the commission. The terms of the other four commissioners expire in 1997.

According to custom, Supervisor John K. Flynn, who is an alternate on the commission, will get first dibs at replacing Howard. The rest of the commissioners are Supervisor Susan Lacey, Simi Valley City Councilman Bill Davis, Camarillo Councilman David Smith and Michael Wooten, a citizen representative from Camarillo appointed by the Board of Supervisors.
