SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

Chaffey College forward Warren Rosegreen admits that he is cocky.

“The way I feel is simple. I don’t think anybody in the state can outrebound me when I’m at full intensity,” Rosegreen said.

Based on his numbers in Saturday night’s final of the Glendale College tournament, Rosegreen has reason to be confident.

He grabbed 17 rebounds and scored 14 points to lead Chaffey in a 95-76 victory over Glendale.

Rosegreen, a 6-foot 6-inch sophomore from Florida, finished with 54 rebounds in three tournament games, and was named to the all-tournament team.

The size advantage of Chaffey and some untimely errors by Glendale haunted the Vaqueros.

Glendale trimmed a 13-point second-half deficit to six points with 10 minutes remaining in the game.

However, Chaffey went on a 13-4 run to put the game out of reach.

“They have a lot of pistols and they don’t miss,” Glendale Coach Brian Beauchemin said. “It’s a good combination when you can shoot and you’re athletic.”

Sophomore forward Charles Garcia scored 25 points for Glendale (8-3).

Garcia was fouled on two consecutive three-point shot attempts and made six free throws give Glendale a 63-53 lead with 14 minutes remaining.

Shortly thereafter, Chaffey lost its composure and collected three technical fouls.

But Glendale was able to convert only two points.

“I told our team they’ll (Chaffey) blow themselves out,” Beauchemin said.

“But I think we added to their frenzy by not converting.”

Chaffey’s leading scorer was Robin Kennedy with 23 points.

Avondre Jones, the former USC player, finished with six first-quarter points for Chaffey.
