Just the facts:
* For 1994, 3.2 billion Christmas stamps were printed.
* Contemporary Christmas stamps outnumber traditional Christmas stamps, 1.9 billion to 1.3 billion.
* Because Christmas is on a Sunday, the two “busiest mail days” were Dec. 12 and Dec. 19 when about 500 million cards and letters were canceled.
* On Dec. 12, Southern California post offices canceled about 18.3 million pieces of mail. This is 70%-80% above a “normal” Monday.
* The largest volume of mail on Dec. 12 was canceled at the facilities in San Diego and Santa Ana--2.8 million. In contrast, Pasadena canceled 800,000.
* During the 1994 holiday season, 3.7 billion letters and cards are expected to be processed; and 30 million parcels.
