Fullerton Man Arrested in Death of 7-Month-Old Son
A Fullerton man was arrested Friday on suspicion that he beat his 7-month-old son to death, police said.
Eric Louis Garcia, 31, was booked into Orange County Jail on suspicion of murder after giving police inconsistent statements about fatal head injuries suffered by his son, Johnny, on Tuesday, said Sgt. Hal Stevens.
The child died Thursday at Children’s Hospital of Orange County, Stevens said.
Police said Garcia called his wife at work Tuesday to tell her the child was hurt. When she returned to their home on East Valencia Drive, the child was in serious condition and she took him to St. Jude Medical Center in Fullerton, Stevens said. The boy was later moved to Children’s Hospital.
Stevens said Garcia told police he had shaken the child hard, but denied striking the child or doing anything to cause severe injuries. Investigators charged Garcia because his accounts did not match autopsy findings of head trauma, Stevens said.
