It was former Ladycat basketball Coach Mark Trakh’s last wish before he died of obscurity at Pepperdine.

Does Mater Dei’s second-place finish at the Reebok Holiday Prep Classic mean the Monarchs are the second best high school team in the nation?

Don’t know. The next poll won’t be out until after the Nike shareholder meeting in San Diego.

Which was the most serious injury suffered on the Santa Ana Valley boys’ basketball team?

Easy, that bruised ego. The Falcons cleared out space in the trophy case, then the season actually began. But don’t worry, that room will be put to good use. I hear the school’s soccer team is pretty good.

You know Melody Peterson and the rest of the Mater Dei girls’ basketball team are doing pretty good. So how come we don’t hear more about them on your show?

Mater Dei has a girls’ basketball team? Wow.

Oh, that’s different. It’s still Gottlieb, but it’s a lot more crowded toward the bottom.

Who’s the most self-sacrificing figure on the Orange County sports scene?

Why that would be referee Al Hackney, who went all the way to Las Vegas just to work in the Holiday Prep Classic. Apparently there must have been some shortage of refs in the greater Las Vegas area. He worked six games, all involving Mater Dei. He canceled his plans to return early so he could work the title game. The man’s a giver.

If the Rams stay in Anaheim, will there still be a rain clause for high school games?

Yes. If it rains on the weekend of the Mater Dei-Los Alamitos playoff game, then the Rams have to move their game to Cerritos College.

The Brea Olinda girls’ basketball team has had three coaches in three seasons and continues to win. Do the Ladycats actually need a coach?

No, but they could use a hyphen.

Now that Katella boys’ basketball Coach Tom Danley has another decent team, will he give up his quest for an Orange County Section?

No. But considering the county’s financial problems, Tom may have to reduce his goal. How about an Anaheim Section?

What game at The Pond will be the most exciting this season?

Mater Dei-Crenshaw Round III. That is, of course, provided the Clippers don’t move any playoff games there.

Do you really dislike Mater Dei?

No, no, no. That would be silly. You can’t harbor ill feelings toward a collection of buildings.
