VALLEY-AREA HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Jacobsen Scores 41 for Crescenta Valley

Brock Jacobsen equaled a career high with 41 points and the Crescenta Valley High boys’ basketball team equaled its best start with an 86-43 victory over Bev Facey of Canada on Tuesday in the opening round of the Anaheim Canyon tournament.

Crescenta Valley, ranked No. 1 in the Times’ regional poll, improved to 11-0, tying the team’s record for consecutive wins to begin a season. The Falcons won 11 consecutive games before losing in 1992.

Jacobsen, a senior forward who has signed to attend the University of San Diego, also had 12 rebounds and six assists. Jacobsen made three three-point baskets and six of seven free-throws.

Junior guard Jake Willis scored 15 points and had 10 rebounds and 10 assists.

Harvard-Westlake 74, Arcadia 54--Jason Collins scored 23 points and had 11 rebounds and Jarron Collins scored 19 points and had 15 rebounds as Harvard-Westlake, ranked second in the Times’ regional poll, improved to 11-0 with a quarterfinal win in the Covina tournament.

Artesia 68, Chatsworth 64--Jerome Joseph scored 20 points and Eddie Miller added 18 for Chatsworth in a second round loss at the Best in the West tournament.

Oxnard 56, Alemany 48--Danny Sweeney and Geoffrey Phillips combined for 32 points and 25 rebounds for Oxnard in the first-round game of the Lompoc tournament. Taj Lewis added nine points and nine assists for the Yellowjackets (4-3).

Monroe 76, Van Nuys 74--Senior Carlos Torres broke up an inbounds pass with one second remaining to preserve a Monroe victory in the first round of the Birmingham tournament.

GIRLS

Hart 55, Crescenta Valley 35--Jaclyn Kuptz scored a career-high 23 points and LaCresha Clark added 13 to lead the Indians in a Thousand Oaks tournament quarterfinal.

Clark, an All-Valley guard, sat out the fourth quarter because of a dislocated shoulder.

Buchanan 46, Rio Mesa 44--Kristi Swift made a three-pointer with 15 seconds left to lift Buchanan in a Thousand Oaks tournament quarterfinal. Brittany Kanonga’a scored 18 points for Rio Mesa (6-2).
