OXNARD : 2 Arrested in Theft of Woman’s Purse
Police have arrested an Oxnard man and a teen-ager on suspicion of snatching an 84-year-old woman’s purse while she was shopping in Port Hueneme.
Ali Ostalaza 24, and a 17-year-old Oxnard youth whose name was not released because of his age surrounded Beverly Elder of Oxnard outside a store on Channel Islands Boulevard Wednesday and grabbed her purse, Port Hueneme police said Thursday.
Police said the two then ran behind a shopping center. Later that afternoon, when a witness spotted the 17-year-old, police were summoned and the youth was arrested, police said. Ostalaza later turned himself in at the Oxnard Police Department, officials said.
The two were booked on suspicion of grand theft, police said. The purse and its contents were not recovered.
