THE BOWLS DAILY REPORT : CITRUS / ALABAMA vs. OHIO STATE, Monday : It Would Take Magic to Get Tickets

Ohio State quarterback Bobby Hoying tried to add an attraction to the Buckeye schedule when he called the Orlando Arena to try to get tickets for a Magic game this week. “I asked if we could get 112 tickets for Ohio State University?” he said. “They just laughed.” The Magic routinely sell out all games, even those against the Clippers. . . . Ohio State should be in the Rose Bowl hunt next year considering only 11 current players are seniors. “I think we’ll be highly ranked next year,” Ohio State Coach John Cooper said. “And if we win this game it will make this winter a little shorter and a little warmer in Columbus. Some of the young kids will have a little better work ethic.”

A victory by Alabama in Monday’s game would make the senior class the all-time winningest in school history. The current mark of 44-5-1 is tied with the 1977-1980 group that went 44-4-0. “I’ll remember them as a team that won 44 games with a chance to win 45,” Coach Gene Stallings said. “They won 32 games without getting beat. They won a national championship and averaged 11 wins a year. After four years, this team has had some chances to do some things. They had a chance to play for two national championships. A lot of teams don’t have that chance.”
