Taft to Play Sylmar in Its Opener

Taft and Sylmar have reached an agreement to open the 1995 football season against each other at Sylmar High, Jeff Engilman, the Sylmar coach, announced Wednesday.
“It will be nice for the Valley and will be a good moneymaker for both schools,” Engilman said.
Sylmar and Taft have been the top City Section teams in the area during the past few seasons. Sylmar (14-0) won the City 4-A Division championship last month, its second title in three seasons. Taft (10-2) was upset in the quarterfinals on a last-second touchdown by Dorsey.
Engilman said that attempts to secure a game against Hart were unsuccessful, and that Taft replaces Kennedy on the team’s nonconference schedule.
“Whether we play Kennedy, Hart or Taft it doesn’t matter,” Engilman said. “I feel we are the best team in the Valley.”
