BOYS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Grant’s Patterson Shoots Down Granada Hills With 41 Points

Grant senior guard Ronald Patterson tied a school record with 41 points in an 82-75 nonconference victory over Granada Hills on Friday night at Grant.

Danny Enowitz scored 41 points for Grant during a game in 1988.

Patterson made six three-point shots and all nine of his free throws. He scored 19 points in the fourth quarter for the Lancers (8-5).

Harvard-Westlake 76, Notre Dame 57--Jason Collins scored 24 points and pulled down a school-record 24 rebounds as the Wolverines (14-1, 2-0) won a Mission League game at Notre Dame.

Collins’ brother, Jarron, added 19 points and nine rebounds.

Tom Zapata paced Notre Dame with 17 points.

Village Christian 65, Oak Park 59--David Gustafson scored a career-high 43 points to lead Village Christian (6-6) in a nonleague game.

The game was tied, 50-50, with four minutes left, before the Crusaders broke it open. Gustafson scored 13 points in the fourth quarter.

Aaron Kendrick added 11 points for Village Christian.

Westlake 80, Newbury Park 66--Matt Smiley scored 22 points and had seven rebounds to lead the Warriors in a Marmonte League game at Newbury Park.

Junior guard Steve Aylsworth added 15 points for the Warriors (11-1, 4-0).

Adam Reinwasser led Newbury Park (5-8, 1-3) with 25 points.

Montclair Prep 76, Crespi 73--Mark Lubaszka missed a game-tying three-point shot at the buzzer to spoil a comeback by the Celts and give Montclair Prep a victory in the first meeting between the teams.

It was the sixth consecutive victory for the Mounties (14-3), who held a 13-point lead early in the fourth quarter.

Montclair Prep was paced by Scott Stark’s 20 points.

Gianandrea Marcaccini had 29 points for Crespi (7-6), including four three-pointers.

Crespi committed 19 of its 28 fouls in the second half, and Montclair made 20 of 37 free throws.

Alemany 71, St. Francis 64--Sophomore Jesus Castillon scored nine of his 29 points in the fourth quarter to give the Indians their first Mission League victory in two years.

Adrian Pantoja scored six of his 20 points in the fourth quarter for Alemany (7-8, 1-1).

Raul Lepe scored 29 points for St. Francis.

Verdugo Hills 76, Belmont 57--Maurice Potter scored 30 points, including 19 in the fourth quarter, to lead Verdugo Hills (4-9, 1-2) in a Northern League game. The junior forward added 10 rebounds. Belmont (1-3) trailed, 48-45, after three quarters then was outscored, 28-12.

Mike Sessions, who scored 20 points, and Jerson Castillo, who had four points and 10 assists, also contributed to Verdugo Hills’ late rally.

Palisades 85, North Hollywood 75--Arthur Lee scored 36 points for North Hollywood in a nonleague game at Palisades.

Jeff Carpenter added 12 points for the Huskies (7-6). Palisades’ Johannes Burge and Cassian Aguet combined for 53 points.

Littlerock 74, Ridgecrest Burroughs 68--John George had 20 points and nine rebounds, and Bronson Pitts added 14 points for Littlerock (10-5) in a Golden League opener.

Moorpark 69, Calabasas 60--The Coyote rally from a 17-point fourth quarter deficit fell short in a Frontier League opener for both teams.

Steve Jennings scored 17 points and Mike McKenzie added 14 for Moorpark (13-4, 1-0). Guard Billy Hoover scored 18 points for Calabasas (4-10, 0-1).

Simi Valley 70, Camarillo 58--Nathan Wheeler had 16 points while Scott Schnetzler added 12 points and 14 rebounds to lead Simi Valley (12-2, 2-2) in a Marmonte League game.

Buena 70, Rio Mesa 50--The Bulldogs held Rio Mesa without a field goal in the first quarter in a Channel League game.

Junior John Tobias scored 16 points and Ryan Howery and junior CenekaShaw added 14 points for Buena (8-4, 2-0 in league play). Shaw finished with 11 rebounds.

Cory Wilson scored 14 points for Rio Mesa.

St. Monica 79, Birmingham 76--David Redmond had 25 points and Scott LeWinter added 16 for Birmingham (6-6) in an intersectional loss at Van Nuys.

Burbank 48, Burroughs 39--Junior guard Matt Baker scored 17 of his 22 points in the second and third quarters to lead the Bulldogs in a Foothill League game.

Burbank (7-6, 1-0) outscored the Indians 30-16 over the middle quarters.

Junior Don Allado added 12 points for Burbank, Sophomore J.K. Scott scored 13 points for Burroughs.

St. Genevieve 87, Mary Star 73--Randy Iaccino scored 34 points and Mike Padilla added 26 for the Valiants (3-7, 1-1) in a Santa Fe League game.

Whitney 85, Faith Baptist 62--Emmanuel Evans scored 25 points for Faith Baptist (4-5) in a Delphic League game.

Dos Pueblos 86, Ventura 65--Brian Williams scored 23 points for Dos Pueblos (11-1, 2-0).

Forward Donte Lincoln and center Charles Dixon each had 20 points for Ventura (3-8, 1-1).

L.A. Baptist 64, Fillmore 29--Kevin Aust had 16 points and 15 rebounds, while Ari Veney added four points and 10 assists for L.A. Baptist (8-5) in a nonleague blowout at Fillmore.
