BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : CLU Women Roll Behind Wood, 122-45

Melissa Wood scored 38 points for Cal Lutheran, the third-best single-game performance in school history, as the Regals cruised to a 122-45 victory over Mills College Friday night at Cal Lutheran.

Wood, a sophomore from Thousand Oaks High, played 25 minutes and made six three-point baskets while registering the best performance since Lisa Sanchez scored 41 points against Scripps College in the 1980-81 season.

The Regals (9-0) are riding an 11-game winning streak dating back to last year, and are ranked 11th in the nation in NCAA Division III.

Evi Orolagas had 18 points, Shani Smyth 16 and Nicole Albert 12 for Cal Lutheran.

GIRLS

Crescenta Valley 49, Pasadena 36--Freshman Michelle Greco scored 14 points to lead Crescenta Valley in a Pacific League opener for both schools.

Greco has scored in double figures in each of the Falcons’ 18 games.

Teammate Amirah Leonard scored 13 points for Crescenta Valley, which improved to 14-4 overall.

Hart 55, Canyon 35--Jamie Broneer scored a season-high 19 points and added nine rebounds for Hart (11-4, 2-0) in a Foothill League game at Newhall. Wendy Downen added 12 points.

Monroe 73, San Fernando 32--Shirley Sotero-Higa scored 15 points and Anna Marquez added 14 for the Vikings (6-3) in a nonleague victory at San Fernando. Marquisha Flowers contributed 10 points and 10 rebounds for Monroe.

Burroughs 77, Burbank 27--Suzy Babko had 19 points and six steals for the host Indians (7-8, 2-0) in a Foothill League game.

Janelle Simon added 16 points and six steals and Erika Huber had 12 points and 14 rebounds.

Calabasas 41, Moorpark 36--Melissa Krolik scored 15 of her 19 points in the second half for the visiting Coyotes in a Frontier League opener. Krolik also had 19 rebounds.

Jamie Apody scored six of her 10 points in the final quarter as Calabasas (8-3, 1-0)outscored Moorpark, 19-13.

Tina Milburn scored 13 points for Moorpark.

Fillmore 61, L.A. Baptist 36--Senior guard Danielle Stines’ all-around play led the visiting Flashes in a nonleague game.

Stines scored 13 points, had seven rebounds, four assists and six steals. Guard Christie Rosenblad scored eight points and also had six steals for Fillmore (11-1). Joy Bowman scored 10 points for L.A. Baptist (4-8).
