Bond Crisis Cutbacks, Forum: Though layoff notices have already gone out to more than 100 workers, Orange County department heads are expected to tell the Board of Supervisors on Tuesday how they plan to slash $40.2 million from their budgets in the current fiscal year. The county lost more than $2 billion from poor investment decisions last year, forcing it into the largest municipal bankruptcy in U.S. history. Additional staff cuts and service reductions are assured, as financial advisers have detailed budget shortfalls of more than $330 million over the next 18 months. On Friday, Assemblyman Curt Pringle (R-Garden Grove) will hold a forum to explore solutions to the crisis, which has snarled 186 other cities, agencies and school districts. The forum will begin at 1:50 p.m. at the Garden Grove Community Meeting Center, 11300 Stanford Ave. Pringle will be joined by state Sen. John R. Lewis (R-Orange) and U.S. Rep. Christopher Cox (R-Newport Beach).
