BOYS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Bolsa Grande Upsets La Quinta

David Price sank two free throws--after a technical foul was called on the La Quinta bench--with two seconds left to give Bolsa Grande the 44-43 upset victory in a Garden Grove League boys’ basketball game Friday at Bolsa Grande.

Price also had 17 points to lead Bolsa Grande (8-8, 2-2). Greg Greenfield had 18 points to lead La Quinta (10-7, 4-1).

Garden Grove 67, Rancho Alamitos 57--Mike Campuzano had 15 points and Joey Lopez added 13 to lead host Garden Grove (8-10, 2-3).

Santiago 47, Los Amigos 46--With six seconds left in the game, Kevin Nelson made a layup for Santiago (7-10, 2-2). Nelson finished with 10 points. Raphael Robledo scored 16 points and Fred Olmedo added 14 for the Cavaliers.

In the Academy League:

St. Margaret’s 78, Capistrano Valley Christian 24--Rob Miltner scored 16 points, 13 rebounds and had six blocked shots for St. Margaret’s (11-3, 3-0). Damion Raibon scored 16 points and Bobby Baker added 14.

Liberty Christian 72, Silverado St. Michael’s Prep 27--Bob McClung scored 24 points and had seven steals and six assists for Liberty Christian (6-9, 1-2). Greg Rule added 21 points and Bryan Avery scored 14.

In the Empire League:

Century 45, El Dorado 44--With the score tied at 44, B.J. Wallace sank a free throw to give Century (11-7, 1-1) the victory. Gabriel Aguirre scored 16 for the Centurions and Curtis Arrington added 10.

Cypress 82, Kennedy 52--Brett Boulton scored 16 points and Derek Mitchell had 14 points and 10 assists to lead host Cypress (14-3, 2-0). David Hinojosa scored 18 for Kennedy.

Katella 65, Loara 42--LaByron Clayton had 21 points and Jacy Armbruster added 11 points for host Katella (15-1, 2-0).

Ocean View 79, Santa Ana 58--Dan McDonald scored 30 points and had 10 rebounds for Ocean View (12-7, 2-1). Teammate Mike Seguin added 14 points.

Servite 71, Saddleback 43--Sean Rawson scored 21 points, including three three-pointers, for the 10th-ranked Friars (12-4, 3-0). Teammate David Downs added 15 points.

Tustin 89, Westminster 57--Doug Gottlieb scored 25 points and had 14 assists for the second-ranked Tillers (16-1, 3-0). Robert Griffin added 22 points and David Lalazarian had 17 points and seven rebounds.

In the Olympic League:

Calvary Chapel 73, Brethren Christian 60--Isaac Leasau scored 17 points to lead Calvary Chapel (14-5, 2-1). Scott Milne’s 18 points for Brethren Christian led all scorers.

Whittier Christian 47, Orange Lutheran 44--Sonny Madsen’s desperation three-pointer attempt at the buzzer bounced off the rim and Whittier Christian (8-9, 2-1) escaped with the victory.

Ed Zieman’s three-point play with 1:41 remaining broke a 42-42 tie for the Heralds. Brad Smith had 21 points.

Brea Olinda 71, Magnolia 48--Magnolia’s four-point lead at the end of the first quarter quickly vanished and Brea Olinda put the screws to Magnolia. Sean Wink had 13 points and Matt Bodisord added 10 for Brea Olinda (13-6, 3-0).

In the Pacific Coast League:

Estancia 71, Costa Mesa 42--Center Chris Candlish had 16 points and eight rebounds to lead sixth-ranked Estancia in an easy victory. Dane Plock added 13 points for the Eagles (16-3, 3-0).

Laguna Beach 47, Aliso Niguel 41--Brandon Bloch scored 13 points and had seven assists for the Artists (10-8, 3-0). Teammate Nick Beimfohr scored 11 points. Will Campbell scored 12 points for Aliso Niguel (6-12, 0-3).

Laguna Hills 77, University 68--Mike Scagilone had 29 points and 10 rebounds for Laguna Hills (10-5, 2-1). Teammate Saia Makakaufaki added 15 points and 16 rebounds.

Newport Harbor 56, Corona Del Mar 46--Bobby Priesley led Newport Harbor (8-10, 2-1) with 11 points. Joel Owen scored 12 points for Corona Del Mar.
