Pepperdine Can’t Shoot Straight in Loss
Toso Pavilion has been good to Pepperdine, which had won 10 consecutive games there.
Friday, that ended.
The Waves shot a season-low 30.8% in a 67-50 loss to Santa Clara in a West Coast Conference game.
Steve Nash scored 17 points for Santa Clara (10-3, 2-0 in the league). Kevin Dunne added 15 points and Jason Sedlock 10.
Gerald Brown had 22 points for Pepperdine (0-1, 4-9), which missed all 11 of its three-point shots in the second half and shot 27.6% from the field after halftime.
“We struggled all night with our perimeter shooting, and Santa Clara did a good job of keeping us off the offensive boards,” Wave Coach Tony Fuller said. “You cannot expect to win on the road shooting 31% and committing 19 turnovers.”
Santa Clara won despite 20 turnovers. The Broncos shot only 43.2%, still their best shooting percentage in their past six games.
