On Friday, a pretrial hearing was set for that date in San Bernardino Superior Court.

Baseball

Cal State Northridge right-hander Keven Kempton, who won 10 games for the Matadors two years ago, was struck by a line drive in practice this week and will be sidelined indefinitely.

Kempton, a senior captain, was hit on the right elbow while feeding balls into a pitching machine during batting practice. Kempton had tendon-replacement surgery on the same elbow March 7 and was several months ahead of his projected recovery schedule.

He said Friday that three fingers on his right hand remain numb and that doctors said he may be sidelined for up to one month. Kempton described his hand as “a claw” and said he remains on painkillers.

Kempton, 24, was expected to pitch Jan. 29 in the third game of a season-opening series with UC Riverside.

“It’s another roadblock, something else to deal with,” he said. “I bust my butt for nine months to get ahead of schedule, now this.”

The West Valley Volleyball Club placed second recently in the Fiesta Bowl Classic in Phoenix. West Valley, which is coached by former Pepperdine player Ty Kastendiek, competed in the 16-year-old girls’ division.
