HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Canyon Overtakes Saugus at Finish

Canyon High trailed most of the way, but rallied for a 49-45 Foothill League boys’ basketball victory over Saugus on Thursday night at Canyon.

Canyon (11-9, 4-4) took its first lead with 3 minutes 53 seconds left and went ahead for good on Brian Connelly’s tip-in with 1:11 left.

Ruben Castandeda had 11 points for the Cowboys. Brian Finley scored 14 for Saugus (9-10, 4-3).

Calabasas 84, Malibu 50--Noel Bloom had 21 points and 14 rebounds, and Ryan Coleman added 15 points, six assists and six steals for the Coyotes (6-12, 2-3) in a Frontier League game.

Alemany 67, St. Francis 60--Jesus Castillon had 22 points and 11 rebounds for the Indians (10-11, 4-4) in a Mission League game.

Valley Alternative 61, Marlton 45--Melvin Franklin scored 15 points for Valley Alternative (1-3, 1-3) in a Magnet League game.

Antelope Valley Christian 70, Santa Clarita Christian 67--Chris New had 20 points and seven rebounds for the Cardinals (4-14) in a nonleague game.

Campbell Hall 71, Whitney 49--Mike Appel had 23 points for the Vikings (8-10, 3-2) in a Delphic League game.

Newbury Park 55, Camarillo 30--Jann Thorpe had 14 points and seven rebounds, and Kara McKeown added 12 points and nine rebounds for the Panthers (20-1, 10-0) in a Marmonte League game.

Simi Valley 92, Agoura 42--Tawnee Cooper had 26 points and 13 rebounds for the Pioneers (18-4, 8-2) in a Marmonte game.

Thousand Oaks 54, Royal 33--Jenn Detmer scored eight of her 17 points in the third quarter for the Lancers (12-8, 7-3) in a Marmonte League game.

Mayfield 74, Campbell Hall 69--Danika Hendrickson had 35 points and seven rebounds, and Elena Dubinsky added 20 points, 15 rebounds, eight steals and five assists for the Vikings (10-5) in a nonleague game at Mayfield.
