Pickings Are Easy for Car Burglars in Valley
Words cannot describe the anger that grew in me as I read the Dec. 26 story about the rise of car burglaries in the Valley.
A couple of months ago I was driving late one night when I noticed a car with a broken window. As I stopped to check it out, two kids who were hiding behind the car started running. I called the police and chased them, and the LAPD stopped them and took them into custody.
I accompanied the police to the original crime scene and found the car’s dashboard destroyed and the radio on the ground next to where the kids were hiding. Inside the car was a screwdriver and a set of scissors.
I spoke with a detective a couple of days later and was told that the district attorney dropped the case because of lack of evidence. If this isn’t enough to bring the case to trial, we all better get armored cars because it’s clear that it’s open season for car burglars.
