MOTOCROSS : Huffman Is Easy Rider in Winning 125cc Race

Teen-ager Damon Huffman, jumping higher and farther than any other rider in his class, won his second consecutive 125cc Supercross race of the season with amazing ease before 55,417 Saturday night in Anaheim Stadium.

Huffman, defending Western Regional champion from Acton, was lapping riders on his Suzuki by the eighth time around the twisting infield course with its spectacular jumps, berms and stutter-bumps.

Ryan Hughes of Escondido finished second, several hundred yards behind, riding a Kawasaki. Craig Decker of Palm Desert, on a Suzuki, was third.

It was Huffman’s third victory in a row at Anaheim. He also won the regional season opener last week in Minneapolis.

Two-time defending Supercross champion Jeremy McGrath of Murrieta, who set a goal of nine victories in 15 races this season, appeared to be on his way to reaching his goal quickly.

McGrath came from 12th place at the start to win the main event, passing Larry Ward on the 11th lap for the lead. Ward held on to finish second.

McGrath had won the first two races at Orlando, Fla., and Minneapolis. He also won his Anaheim heat with little competition.

In the second round of the United States women’s motocross series, Amber Hughes, a high school senior from Glen Burnie, Md., won the eight-lap feature on a Suzuki.
