Charles P. Plaia; Active in Catholic Church

Charles P. Plaia, a longtime Camarillo resident, died Saturday after a brief illness. He was 80.

Born in New Orleans, Plaia spent much of his adult life in Queens, N. Y., before moving to Camarillo in 1978. Plaia had been in the custom metal engraving business.

Plaia was a member of the Knights of Columbus and St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church in Camarillo. He was also active in the Italian Catholic Federation.

Plaia is survived by his wife of 58 years, Madeline; two sons, Joseph of Bristol, N. H., and Charlie of Spring Hill, Fla.; a daughter, Angela of Camarillo; a brother, Tony Plaia of Queens; nine grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Visitation has been scheduled for from 6 to 9 tonight at Pierce Brothers Griffin Mortuary in Camarillo. A burial mass will be held Tuesday at St. Mary Magdalen Church in Camarillo, with internment immediately following at Santa Clara Catholic Cemetery in Oxnard.
